Website: codes and conventions

For my website, I have researched many celebrities’ websites, such as, Rihanna’s official website, Cheryl Cole’s and the codes and conventions of these websites. What makes them appealing? Are the layouts a similar style? Are all the designs completely different? What technical codes have been used?  Is the content of the website just music, inform and entertain? Who is the website aimed at? What target audience?

Rihanna’s website:

Layout and design: Different pictures of Rihanna change, which changes the whole background like a slideshow. Each section has different colours and fonts.

The technical codes:

All the navigation links are on the top of the page, and are shown simple and clearly.

The content of the website: The content of the website is to inform her audience about her new releases of music, etc. But also to entertain; if it doesn’t look eye-catching then it won’t be as successful.

Genre codes:

Music

Target audience: The target audience will be to Rihanna’s fans, as it is interactive with Rihanna on twitter, showing and following what she’s doing with pictures which interest her fans. The audience will be a mass audience, with many views daily.

Cheryl Cole’s:

Layout and design:

The layout and design on Cheryl Cole’s is fairly similar to Rihanna’s, except it’s more of a simple design.

The technical codes used:

The technical codes used are fairly similar to Rihanna’s. The navigation bar is presented at the top of her website, clearly.

Content of the website:

Informative, entertaining

Genre codes:

Music

Target audience:

Cheryl’s is also a mass audience, appealing to all her fan base.

I used an editing site called 'picmonkey' and created an over layering effect of the eyes and the beach. I think this has worked well as it showing that she's telling the story through her own eyes.

I think idea 3 is my favourite. I like the font that I have used, and I think the symbol of the diamond looks effective underneath the text.

This is my first cut of my music video. You can see the different locations I have been filming in. Since creating my first cut and editing, some of my clips need to be directed differently, for example, different camera angles. Also, some of the lighting is an issue as its dark outside, the quality of the video is grainy and it brings the rest of the music video down.


Firstly, As my friend falls on the bed, I think it looks really effective, especially in slow motion, although the timing needs to be altered to fit with the beat and when she hits the bed. I struggled with the camera angle and trying to fit the bed in portrait so I had to film it landscape. Also, I think the quality isn't the best, and it has a yellow/orange tint which I don't think looks very professional. I am still deciding whether to re film the clip with better lighting equipment or think of other ideas such as, water falling on someone, with the same impact as falling.

WHITE CUT EFFECT - On my editing timeline, I placed a white flash so when she falls on the bed it flashes.

Eyes-
I have done a close up of the eyes opening. This looks effective as it showing her awakening as she begins to tell the story... Although, the lighting is also a problem as it's too dark which makes the quality of the scene not as good as the others. What can I do to improve? Get better lighting equipment to make the eye look much brighter.

So far for my filming I have filmed my first shots with the mise-en scene at the beach in Hornsea. I have also filmed the eyes and lips parts, which are close ups.

Beverley library
I am going to ask and see if I can film in the old staircase of Beverley Library. I chose this as one of my filming locations as it's very historic and will look great for my music video!

What did I achieve?

This week I started filming for the first time on Hornsea Beach. I used my camera to film. I had a very productive day and was very pleased with how everything went.

Leisure centre- Pool!

First of all, I asked Hornsea Leisure centre if there was a possibility that I could use the pool to film Katie in. They took my name and number and said that they would get back to me, although I didn’t hear anything from them. I then went to ask the leisure centre in Beverley and they were happy to let me film one Saturday night at 9, when all the public had left. J

Smoke effect

The first time I saw this in Rihanna's video 'We found love' it inspired me greatly to do my own. It's looks effective but quite challenging as I have been researching into it on how to make the text combind with the smoke.

This has inspired me to put sparklers into my music video. The light 'shines bright like a diamond' which will fit perfectly into my music video!

My chosen song- Rihanna- Diamonds (Audio)

My chosen song is Diamonds by Rihanna. This song is new on the charts at the moment. I chose this song in October 2012. I was fascinated by Rihanna's music videos and I loved her music, although, as I liked her music videos too much it was hard for me to create a better version of it and it was hard to think of new ideas because as i was so familiar with the music videos, it was hard not to copy the original. As this song is new out on the charts, she has not published her official music video, YET! So this has given me the chance to create my own ideas before the official one comes out! It's also a challenge as I will be interested to see her ideas that she does in her video compared to mine. (with in mind the cost and budget of everything!) As I have planned all my ideas already, I'm just waiting for hers to come out as it will before I will have finished mine. The song to me is very powerful  upbeat and mysterious!

I researched too see if anything had been reveled about her official music video to be made and this is what I found:
'The song makes a lyrical departure from Rihanna's recurring theme of an unhealthy relationship,^[1] and contains a prominent concept of love.' 

My interpretations of the song is: 
it's about a relationship, which is/ has become strong, 'I choose to be happy' Rihanna is telling everyone that she and him are strong and shining like a diamond. It also creates short stories such as, 'I saw the life inside your eyes' when you hold me, I'm alive', She is also talking to the *whoever* showing her strong and personal connection. A variety of different narratives can be made from this music video, but the main point is that it is a positive, upbeat song!

Filming at Hornsea!

This was my first time shooting at Hornsea beach. Here are some pictures from the day:
